Known trouble spots on the 210E
Worn seat rails and seat-lock pins let a seat slide back on takeoff — a repeat NTSB cause on Cessna singles. Recurring inspection of the rails, roller housings, and lock pins is required; look for the seat-rail inspection at each annual.
Corrosion and fatigue cracking of the wing carry-through spar prompted an emergency AD after a fatal in-flight wing separation. Eddy-current / visual spar inspections are required on affected 210s (and are a Cardinal watch item). Confirm the spar inspection is in the records.
Cessna rubber fuel-cell bladders can wrinkle with age and trap water that a normal preflight sump won't drain — a documented cause of fuel-starvation accidents. Look for bladder replacement, the recurring wing-low water-drain procedure, or metal-tank / reticulated-foam conversions.
Cracked mufflers and exhaust risers on Cessna singles let carbon monoxide into the cabin-heat air — a repeat fatal accident cause. Look for exhaust-system pressure/borescope inspection, muffler replacement, and a CO detector install.
The Cessna 210 hydraulic retractable gear (power pack, actuators, saddle clamps, up-locks) is maintenance-intensive and a frequent squawk source. Look for gear power-pack service, actuator/seal work, and gear rigging / retraction checks.
Many Hartzell and McCauley constant-speed props carry blade-shank or hub ADs plus a calendar/hours overhaul interval; blade corrosion and hub grease leaks are common findings. Confirm the prop AD status and last overhaul against the interval.
