Airworthiness Directives; Turbomeca Arriel 1B, 1D, 1D1, 2B, and 2B1 Turboshaft Engines

What this AD requires

We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for the products listed above. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as:

Which aircraft AD 2009-08-08 applies to

MakesTurbomeca
ModelsArriel 1B, Arriel 1D, Arriel 1D1, Arriel 2B, Arriel 2B1, Arriel 1, Arriel 2

Applies only to engines with power turbine module M04 installed, as listed by serial number in Figure 1 of Turbomeca Alert MSB No. A292 72 0827 (Arriel 1B, 1D, 1D1) or MSB No. A292 72 2833 (Arriel 2B, 2B1), Version A, dated March 20, 2009. These engines are installed on, but not limited to, Eurocopter AS 350 B, AS 350 BA, AS 350 B1, AS 350 B2, AS 350 B3, and EC 130 B4 helicopters.

Whether AD 2009-08-08 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.

How AD compliance is recorded

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of complianceThe specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.
DateWhen the work was done.
Aircraft timeTotal time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificateThe A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
Is AD 2009-08-08 complied with on your aircraft?

Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.

Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
