Airworthiness Directives; Eurocopter France Model AS 332C, L, and L1 Helicopters

What this AD requires

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that is applicable to Eurocopter France Model AS 332C, L, and L1 helicopters. This action requires greasing and inspecting main rotor blade horn eye bolts (eye bolts), and replacing certain eye bolt bearings (bearings) with airworthy bearings. This amendment is prompted by one report of abnormally high amplitude inflight vibrations due to failure of a bearing. The actions specified in this AD are intended to prevent failure of a bearing, due to premature wear caused by an improper axial pre-load, which could result in loss of main rotor blade pitch control and subsequent loss of control of the helicopter.

Which aircraft AD 98-06-32 applies to

ModelsAS332

Applies to AS332 main rotor blade horn eye bolt assemblies with less than 500 hours TIS; requires greasing/inspection within 50 hours TIS per Eurocopter France Telex Service 39/0206/1997 (containing AS332 Telex Service No. 01.00.52 R1), dated July 25, 1997. Replace eye bolt bearings if expelled grease is discolored/contains metal particles, or rotational torque exceeds 30,000 mm-g (2.655 in-lbs).

Whether AD 98-06-32 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.

How AD compliance is recorded

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of complianceThe specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.
DateWhen the work was done.
Aircraft timeTotal time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificateThe A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
Is AD 98-06-32 complied with on your aircraft?

Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.

Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
