Airworthiness Directives; Eurocopter France Model AS-350B, BA, B1, B2, and D Helicopters, and Model AS 355E, F, F1, F2, and N Helicopters

What this AD requires

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that is applicable to Eurocopter France Model AS-350B, BA, B1, B2, and D helicopters, and Model AS 355E, F, F1, F2, and N helicopters. This action requires replacing certain tailboom attachment bolts located above the cargo compartment floor. This amendment is prompted by two reports of attachment bolts' strength properties not meeting design specifications during manufacture. The actions specified in this AD are intended to identify and remove the weaker bolts and to prevent the separation of the tailboom from the helicopter, and subsequent loss of control of the helicopter.

Which aircraft AD 98-06-12 applies to

ModelsAS350
Part-conditional22201BC06008L.

Applies to helicopters delivered with zero-time before May 16, 1997, overhauled before May 16, 1997, or that had a tailboom attachment bolt P/N 22201BC06008L replaced after July 1, 1994 (exempt only if all three conditions are met on the 'after' side). Text also cites an 'AD 355 Service Telex' alongside the AS350 Service Telex references, which is likely an OCR misread of 'AS 355'; not asserted as a confirmed model. Requires inspecting the 23 bolts above the baggage compartment and replacing (one-by-one) any bolt marked 'M' above 'BC' with an airworthy bolt not marked 'M', torqued to 67-79 in-lbs with new nuts, within 10 hours TIS; full replacement is terminating action.

Whether AD 98-06-12 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.

How AD compliance is recorded

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of complianceThe specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.
DateWhen the work was done.
Aircraft timeTotal time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificateThe A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
Is AD 98-06-12 complied with on your aircraft?

Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.

Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
