Airworthiness Directives; SOCATA-Groupe AEROSPATIALE Models TB9, TB10, TB20, TB21, and TB200 Airplanes

What this AD requires

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Socata-Groupe Aerospatiale (Socata) Models TB9, TB10, TB20, TB21, and TB200 airplanes. This AD requires inspecting the bolts and spacers of the upper attachments of the front belts for cracks, dents, etc. (damage); replacing any damaged bolts or spacers; incorporating a front belts upper attachment reinforcement kit; and reconditioning the belts. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for France. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent failure of the upper seat belt attachment caused by excessive loads on the upper attachment of the belt, which could result in bodily injury to the occupants during landing.

Prevents failure of the upper seat belt attachment; inspects/replaces bolts and spacers per Socata SB 10-103 (TB10, TB20, TB21, TB200, and TB9 with upholstered upper duct posts) or SB 10-104 (TB9 without upholstering), then installs reinforcement kit OPT10 921000 or OPT10 920900.

Whether AD 98-04-03 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.

How AD compliance is recorded

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of complianceThe specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.
DateWhen the work was done.
Aircraft timeTotal time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificateThe A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
Is AD 98-04-03 complied with on your aircraft?

Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.

Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
