Airworthiness Directive 98-16-14
one-timeAirworthiness Directives; Pilatus Britten-Norman Ltd. BN-2, BN- 2A, BN-2B, and BN-2T Series Airplanes
What this AD requires
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to all Pilatus Britten-Norman Ltd. (Pilatus Britten-Norman) BN- 2, BN-2A, BN-2B, and BN-2T series airplanes. This AD requires replacing the attachment bolts, nuts and washers of the lower fitting of the main landing gear (MLG), and adjusting the torque values of the nuts. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for the United Kingdom. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent the bolts that attach the lower fitting of the MLG to the nacelle from becoming threadbound, which could result in structural failure of the MLG with consequent loss of control of the airplane during takeoff, taxi, or landing operations.
Which aircraft AD 98-16-14 applies to
Requires replacement of main landing gear (MLG) lower fitting attachment bolts, nuts, and washers per Pilatus Britten-Norman SB BN2/SB.231, Issue 2, dated Oct 1, 1997, to prevent threadbound bolts and MLG structural failure. Model family (BN-2) inferred from SB designation; the excerpt does not include the specific serial-number applicability list (truncated before that section).
Whether AD 98-16-14 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.
How AD compliance is recorded
A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:
Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.
Look up a tail number →Read the full directive (Federal Register)Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
