What this AD requires

We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Airbus Model A318 series airplanes; Model A319 series airplanes; Model A320-211, -212, -214, -216, -231, -232, and -233 airplanes; and Model A321-111, -112, -131, -211, -212, -213, -231, and -232 airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of early cracking on certain holes of the crossbeam splicing at certain fuselage frames. This AD requires repetitive inspections for cracking of the fastener holes in certain fuselage frames, and depending on airplane configuration, provides an optional terminating action to the repetitive inspections. We are issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Repetitive inspection. Re-inspect every 24 months. The next-due date/hours depend on this aircraft’s time in service — a records report computes it from the logbooks.

Applies to all manufacturer serial numbers except: airplanes with Airbus modification 161255 embodied in production; Model A319 airplanes with modifications 28238, 28162, and 28342 concurrently embodied in production; and Model A318 airplanes with modification 39195 embodied in production.

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of compliance — The specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.

Aircraft time — Total time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificate — The A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
