Airworthiness Directives; Bombardier, Inc., Airplanes

What this AD requires

We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Bombardier, Inc., Model DHC-8-401 and -402 airplanes. This AD was prompted by the discovery of cracking on two test spoiler power control unit (PCU) manifolds during testing by the manufacturer. This AD requires replacement of affected spoiler PCUs. We are issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Which aircraft AD 2017-19-27 applies to

ModelsDHC-8-401, DHC-8-402, DHC-8
Serial-conditional — narrows to serials 4001–4001, 4003–4527.
Part-conditional390700-1007, 390700-1009.

Applies only to airplanes equipped with spoiler power control unit (PCU) P/N 390700-1007 or -1009, and only when that PCU has a serial number in one of: S/Ns 0474 through 1321 inclusive; S/Ns identified in section 4 (Appendix) of Parker Service Bulletin 390700-27-002, Revision 1, dated April 13, 2016; or S/Ns 1394 through 1876 inclusive without suffix 'A'.

Whether AD 2017-19-27 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.

How AD compliance is recorded

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of complianceThe specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.
DateWhen the work was done.
Aircraft timeTotal time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificateThe A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
Is AD 2017-19-27 complied with on your aircraft?

Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.

Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
