What this AD requires

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Hartzell Propeller, Inc., McCauley Propeller Systems, and Sensenich Propeller Manufacturing Company, Inc. propellers. This AD requires maintenance actions amounting to an overhaul of the affected propellers. This AD results from the investigation of a failed propeller blade and subsequent inspections of various propeller models returned to service by Southern California Propeller Service, of Inglewood, CA. We are issuing this AD to prevent blade failure that could result in separation of a propeller blade and loss of control of the airplane.

Applies only to propeller models listed in AD Table 1 that were last returned to service by Southern California Propeller Service of Inglewood, CA (Air Agency Certificate VXSR617L, issued 1992, revoked June 1998); does not apply if the propeller was subsequently overhauled by another repair station. Table 1 covers: Hartzell ( )HC-( )(2,3,4)Y( )-( ), ( )HC-( )(2,3,4)(X,V,MV,W,Z,P,R)(F,G,L,K,R,20,30,31)-( ), ( )HA-( )-( ), HC-B(3,4)(M,P,R,T)(A,N,P)-( ), HC-(D,E)(4,5)(A,B,N,P)-( ); McCauley all constant speed two-bladed models, all constant speed three-bladed models, and all metal propeller models; and Sensenich all metal propeller models.

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of compliance — The specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.

Aircraft time — Total time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificate — The A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
