Airworthiness Directive 2004-09-39
one-timeAirworthiness Directives; Saab Model SAAB 340B Series Airplanes Equipped with Hamilton Sundstrand Propellers
What this AD requires
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to certain Saab Model SAAB 340B series airplanes equipped with Hamilton Sundstrand propellers. This amendment requires a one-time inspection of two remote controlled circuit breakers (RCCB), located in specific electrical compartments, to identify the part number, and replacement of the RCCBs with new RCCBs having a different part number if necessary. This action is necessary to ensure removal of 35-ampere (amp) RCCBs on a 50-amp electrical circuit. Incorrect RCCBs on an electrical circuit could result in erroneous tripping of the RCCBs (even though an overload condition does not exist), premature failure of the RCCBs, loss of power to the feather pump system, and consequent reduced controllability of the airplane. This action is intended to address the identified unsafe condition.
Which aircraft AD 2004-09-39 applies to
Applicability text as sliced is boilerplate ('applies to each airplane identified in the preceding applicability provision'); the specific airplane model is not spelled out verbatim in this excerpt, but Saab Service Bulletin 340-61-038 and references to Saab Aircraft AB indicate a Saab Model 340-series airplane. Requirement concerns remote controlled circuit breakers (RCCB) 29KFC/30KFC in electrical compartments 407VU/408VU: P/N M83383-01-09 is acceptable, P/N M83383-02-07 must be replaced and may not be installed, on airplanes equipped with Hamilton Sundstrand propellers.
Whether AD 2004-09-39 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.
How AD compliance is recorded
A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:
Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.
Look up a tail number →Read the full directive (Federal Register)Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
