Airworthiness Directives; Honeywell International Inc. (Formerly AlliedSignal Inc. and Textron Lycoming) LTS101 Series Turboshaft and LTP101 Series Turboprop Engines

What this AD requires

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD), that is applicable to Honeywell International Inc. (formerly AlliedSignal Inc. and Textron Lycoming) LTS101 series turboshaft and LTP101 series turboprop engines. This amendment requires a one-time visual inspection for surface finish and a one-time fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks of certain impellers installed on LTS101 series turboshaft and LTP101 series turboprop engines. This amendment is prompted by a report of a machining discrepancy that may have occurred during manufacture of the affected impellers. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent impeller failure from cracks in the impeller back face area, which could result in an uncontained engine failure.

Applies to engines with impellers P/N 4-101-052-57 or 4-101-052-62 installed; requires a one-time visual/fluorescent-penetrant inspection for back-face cracks within 900 gas-generator (Ng) cycles per AlliedSignal SB LT 101-72-30-0186 (or Honeywell Rev.1), replacement of impellers exceeding limits, and prohibits future installation of these P/Ns except those with an impeller P/N or S/N listed in SB paragraphs 1.A.(1)-(3) (not enumerated in the retrieved excerpt). Engine model family (LTS101) inferred from the SB part-number/document numbering convention, not stated verbatim as a model name in the retrieved text.

Whether AD 2002-03-09 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.

How AD compliance is recorded

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of complianceThe specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.
DateWhen the work was done.
Aircraft timeTotal time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificateThe A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
Is AD 2002-03-09 complied with on your aircraft?

Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.

Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
