Airworthiness Directive 2002-21-02
one-timeAirworthiness Directives; Cirrus Design Corporation Model SR20 and SR22 Airplanes
What this AD requires
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Cirrus Design Corporation (Cirrus) Model SR20 and SR22 airplanes. This AD requires you to replace the self-locking retaining nut on the roll and yaw trim cartridges with a new self- locking retaining nut with a higher axial load capability. This AD is the result of a report that, during a production flight test, the self- locking retaining nut on the yaw trim cartridge came off. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent loss of the self-locking retaining nut on the roll and yaw trim cartridges during flight, which could result in jamming of the corresponding flight control system. Such jamming could lead to loss of control of the airplane.
Which aircraft AD 2002-21-02 applies to
SR20 serials 1005 through 1241 EXCEPT 1235, 1237, 1238; SR22 serials 0002 through 0333 EXCEPT 0309, 0322, 0323, 0328. Requires replacing yaw/roll trim cartridge self-locking retaining nut with P/N MS21044N3 per Cirrus Alert SB A20-27-06 (SR20) / SB A22-27-03 (SR22), both issued September 20, 2002; prohibits installing any other P/N going forward.
Whether AD 2002-21-02 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.
How AD compliance is recorded
A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:
Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.
Look up a tail number →Read the full directive (Federal Register)Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
