Airworthiness Directives; Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation (Sikorsky) Model S-76A Helicopters

What this AD requires

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Sikorsky Model S-76A helicopters. This AD requires inspecting the air conditioning system at specified intervals until installing a soft- start assembly retrofit kit to prevent a continuous flow of current through the soft-start resistor. This amendment is prompted by a report of overheating of the soft-start assembly. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent overheating of the air conditioning soft-start assembly, damage in the lower tailcone, an electrical fire, and subsequent loss of control of the helicopter.

Which aircraft AD 2000-12-09 applies to

Part-conditional76SB001.

Air conditioning soft-start control assembly (lower tailcone) recurring inspection and retrofit kit P/N 76SB001 installation (terminating action), per Aero Aire Corporation Service Bulletins 970001 Rev A and 970002; incorporation-by-reference copies obtained via Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation Commercial Tech Support. Specific helicopter model not explicitly named in the excerpted text.

Whether AD 2000-12-09 actually applies to your aircraft (by serial and installed parts) and whether it’s already complied with comes from that aircraft’s records.

How AD compliance is recorded

A valid compliance record (14 CFR 43.9) states:

Method of complianceThe specific action taken (inspected, replaced, modified) and to what revision.
DateWhen the work was done.
Aircraft timeTotal time in service / tach at compliance — how recurring next-due is computed.
Signature & certificateThe A&P/IA who returned it to service, with certificate number.
Is AD 2000-12-09 complied with on your aircraft?

Tailplate reads a tail number’s logbooks and matches every applicable AD — including this one — to its compliance evidence, with recurring next-due dates computed.

Applicability is derived from the FAA directive corpus and is advisory, not a legal airworthiness determination. Compliance is established only from an aircraft’s actual records.
